Vent Debout - projet réalisé en collaboration avec Kevin Gouriou

Le projet Vent Debout témoigne de la passion que ce duo d’artistes partage pour le mouvement des choses qui roulent, flottent ou volent. Dans un esprit de comédie absurde, qui n’est pas sans rappeler les œuvres iconiques de l’artiste suisse Roman Signer ; ils imaginent un kayak naviguer parmi les nuages, jouant avec les lois de la physique, porté par les courants atmosphériques.

Telle une girouette sans indication, cette embarcation perchée, arrachée aux flots, ne cohabite plus avec son environnement. Un kayak et sa pagaie tournent en haut d’un poteau, telle une girouette au vent sans indication. Les bateaux au mouillage alentour pivotent eux aussi autour de leur ancrage, dans leur cercle d’évitage, pour se placer face au vent. Chaque embarcation, en fonction de son poids et de la forme de sa coque, se déplace plus ou moins vite que les autres dans sa zone. Le kayak, en élévation, tourne, lui, plus rapidement au-dessus de ses voisins en évitant la friction avec la surface de l’eau. Ses positions, bien que familières, seront totalement décontextualisées. Cette prise de hauteur est-elle une réflexion pour mieux discerner l’horizon ou une dérive périlleuse ?

Kevin Gouriou est né en 1989. Il est designer et soudeur. Il vit et travaille à Plounévez-Lochrist. Diplômé d’un cap serrurier-métallier puis d’un Master Design de produits de l’ECAL/Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne, il navigue à travers son travail entre artisanat et design industriel.

Hortense Le Calvez est née en 1988. Elle vit et travaille à Brest. Elle a étudié à la Rietveld Academy à Amsterdam et au Wimbledon College of Arts à Londres. À travers une perspective maritime, son travail sculptural explore les mouvements des liquides et cherche à donner forme à l’expérience des flux contraints, ceux qui gouvernent et rendent possible le développement des sociétés thermo-industrielles, soulignant l’histoire entrelacée de la dégradation environnementale et du progrès technologique.

The Vent Debout project reflects the passion this artist duo shares for the movement of things that roll, float, or fly. In a spirit of absurd comedy, reminiscent of the iconic works of Swiss artist Roman Signer, they imagine a kayak navigating among the clouds, playing with the laws of physics, carried by atmospheric currents.

Like a directionless weather vane, this perched vessel, torn from the waves, no longer coexists with its environment. A kayak and its paddle spin atop a pole, like a weather vane in the wind without markings. The moored boats nearby also pivot around their anchors, within their swinging circles, to position themselves facing the wind. Each vessel, depending on its weight and hull shape, moves more or less quickly than the others in its zone. The kayak, elevated, spins faster than its neighbours below, avoiding the friction with the water's surface. Its positions, although familiar, become completely decontextualised.

Is this lofty position a means for better discerning the horizon, or a perilous drift?

Kevin Gouriou was born in 1989. He is a designer and welder. He lives and works in Plounévez-Lochrist. A graduate with a vocational certificate in metalworking/structural fabrication and a Master's in Product Design from ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne, he navigates in his work between craftsmanship and industrial design.

Hortense Le Calvez was born in 1988. She lives and works in Brest. She studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and at Wimbledon College of Arts in London. Through a maritime perspective, her sculptural work explores the movements of liquids and seeks to give form to the experience of constrained flows—those that govern and make possible the development of thermo-industrial societies—highlighting the intertwined history of environmental degradation and technological progress.
